Wow what a ride that was! I have so much I want to write about I don't know where to start. Let's see there was the TV Show, the Live tour, the International show, and the live Orlando show. This is what I'm going to do so I won't write a book just in this one section alone, I'm going to add to this section every month with new stories and A LOT of behind the scene photo's.
The big question everybody asks, "How did you get on the show?" My first year on the team was due to Raye Hollitt. I was training at Gold's Gym in Venice Beach one day and I saw Raye, she told me she was pregnant and had to take a year off from Gladiators. I found out who produced the show, I made a few calls and found out they were holding auditions a few weeks later. Every bodybuilder in Los Angeles showed up for this audition. They put me though every obstacle they could find. The one thing I knew I had over all these girls, was that I was an athletic not just a bodybuilder.
I was fast, agile, and strong. Next they wanted looks and someone who was not afraid of the camera. Cool, that was me. After 3 months of going back and forth to auditions they called me in 3 days before filming the show. I got the job! Ice, Ice, Baby was born. (LOL)
How I got the name? Remember the movie Top gun? Remember Ice Man? I was joking when we were thinking of names and I said Ice Man, well the Man got dropped and the Ice stuck! In more ways than one. I loved the Gladiator show, I loved everything about it. I got to play, tackle people, wrestle people, jump on a bungee rope, climb a wall, run around in a big metal ball, meet some really cool, and not so really cool people. What else could a person ask for? Let me just say it now, I miss the Gladiator show.
We filmed 2 shows a day in 4 weeks. I lived and breathed Gladiators for 4 weeks. That was the year Larry Zonka was our host of the show. He was so cute walking around back stage in his shorts and cowboy boots. The Gladiators that were really nice to me the first year were Lace and Gold. I remember watching Lace being so cool with the crowd. Gold hated crowds I remember, she would get anxious when we were signing autographs and have to leave. Lace is the one who took care of me when I got hurt the first time on the show.
Remember the Human Cannon Ball. I hated that game! When that person hit you it felt like a bus hit you. I remember thinking the first time I got hit "who invented this game?" Well, it killed my left arm and gave me a little nerve damage. Needless to say that was my first time trying the pain killer Vicodin. After that I realized I could perform pretty good on Vicodin. It's all fun n games until someone gets hurt. Pain killers seemed to be a pretty big part of behind the scenes with the Gladiators. I'll just leave it at that for now. The first year of the show was pretty subtle, nobody fighting or sleeping together. Oh trust me that all comes later. Check back later for more gossip behind the scenes.
Enjoy the photos.
